Fundraising

Yesterday was another of my 'events' - coffee and cake, sale of garden plants, bring and buy, raffle, sale of watercolour pictures. This year it has been a real slog, and lots of things seem to have been stacked against me. Firstly, the weather has been so cold that my seedlings just didn't grow as they should. Those that have come through are healthy enough but just really small. Consequently, hardly any of them sold on the day though lots of my perennial cuttings did sell well. Then last weekend I returned from holiday with a severe bout of food poisoning, then I went down with a cold - so the baking all had to be done at the very last minute. My energy levels were low, particularly compared to my enthiusiasm levels, so everything was harder or took longer to do. However, thanks to the support of some very good friends and family, the day was a huge success with the total currently standing at £405 - and I have yet to sell the plants! So I am confident that the final total will be more up to £500. In spite of Sally's concerns and her advice that I needed to rest and take things easy this past week, these fundraising events are important to me. I do them for Les - his illness was so very dreadful and if anyone did NOT deserve to go through all that it was my darling Les. Also, this year was for Debra who died at the age of 50 just before Christmas after many years of struggle with bronchiectasis. If the money raised can aid the research into lung disease, particularly pulmonary fibrosis, with a possible discovery of some sort of cure, then I am convinced that everything I do is so very worthwhile. I love you, Les. xxxxx
